Offshore industry faces risk of dangerous farce over safety debate

The UKai??i??s offshore industry finds itself at the centre of what could become a very dangerous farce ai??i?? one that has huge safety and economic implications.

Right now, the sector faces a hammer blow because of a set of questionably constructed diktats that have emanated from what amounts to a transport safety inquiry.

The trigger was the spate of deadly accidents over the past five years. The CAA implemented its inquiry in September, delivering its findings and orders in February.

Wood Review heralds new era for the UKCS

As the last edition of Energy went to press, the ink was barely dry on the final report of Sir Ian Wood’s Maximising Recovery Review and the political bandwagon was still in town.

Sir Ian faced a Parkinson-style interview from Malcolm Webb of Oil & Gas UK in front of a packed audience and then responded to a flurry of questions from the floor.

Taking care with medication is an absolute necessity when offshore

For those of us who work within the oil and gas industry, organisation is a key factor when preparing for a trip offshore. There are a number of considerations, one of which is typically your medication, which commonly may not be something that would be at the top of your list.

However, if preventative measures are not taken ahead of time to ensure a successful and incident-free trip offshore, it could have a seriously detrimental effect on your own health, and also pose a risk to colleagues and risk costly downtime.

Your employer and the operator of your installation or vessel take this very seriously. They manage this by ensuring robust processes and policies are in place and communicated effectively through their HR teams to their workforce; the company occupational health teams support this to ensure the best guidance is provided.
