Cairn finance chief switches to Wood Group amid reshuffles

The chief financial officer and managing director of Cairn Energy will join the Wood Group board of directors at the end of her term in the role, after 16 years with the Edinburgh-based company.

Brown, recently featured in our Women in Energy series, will leave Cairn together with the firmai??i??s deputy chief executive Dr Mike Watts. Both agreed to continue in their roles until the AGM as they seek to resolve Cairn tax issues in India.

The company has faced claims by the countryai??i??s government of an outstanding income tax bill worth around A?250million for its 2006-2007 operations.

Murray Kerr can pinpoint the moment his ambitions were sparked ai??i?? when an inspirational navy recruitment officer gave him a firm talking to.

Mr Kerr was just 17 and father to a tiny baby when he signed up to join the search and rescue branch of the Royal Navy.

Born in Glasgow, he left school at 15 with no qualifications. But five years with the armed forces gave him a chance to develop his talents. He a took several courses including qualifications in mechanical, electronic and aeronautical engineering and business management, culminating in a degree.

Nessco founder joins ISN Solutions

One of the north-eastai??i??s leading entrepreneurs has joined the board of an IT firm following a multimillion pound investment.

Tom Smith ai??i?? founder of Nessco and former chairman of Acsef ai??i?? has been named as chairman of ISN Solutions as it expands into Aberdeen.

Private equity firm Maven has led a A?4.6million investment in the IT support and services business, which specialises in the upstream oil and gas industry.

Scottish oil worker killed in Brazilian carjack

A Scottish oil worker has been shot dead in a bungled carjacking in Brazil.

Peter Campsie was killed by two gunmen in Rio de Janeiro who tried to steal his Lexus.

The 48-year-old father-of-three was shot twice as he tried to flee the moving vehicle.

Noreco director independent resigns

Norwegian oil firm Noreco is considering the proposal for a new appointment to its board after receiving a resignation notice from one of its directors.

The resignation of Daivd Gair, Abrdeen-based director independent of Noreco’s largest shareholders, will become effective on April 25 and the firm is currently discussing his replacement with the nomination committee.

The company did not reveal the reason for Gair’s resignation, who previously held executive exploration and production leadership and mergers and acquisitions delivery positions with BP and Royal Bank of Canada.

RMT sets date for leader vote

The timetable for electing a successor to rail union leader Bob Crow has been announced, with voting set to be held in the summer.

Crow, who increased membership of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union by more than 20,000 during his time as general secretary, died suddenly last month.

The union said nominations will open on April 10 and close on July 2, with voting starting on July 21 and ending on September 22.

Lassarat takes over Kentz CFO role

Global engineering group Kentz has announced the replacement for its retiring chief financial officer.

Meg Lassarat will succeed Ed Power on reaching his retirement age on May 29 and will be appointed to the company’s board.

Lassarat will bring 20 years of experience in finance roles, including chief financial officer positions at Wood Group’s Mustang Engineering for eight years and, most recently, at Houston-based UniversalPegasus International.
